Music Education

As a music major and future music teacher, you can spend your first two years at L&C and then transfer to a four-year institution for your last two years. Our associate's degree programs are excellent stepping stones.

You'll gain a solid background in general studies, plus music courses that range from music theory to applied instruction in every division of musical instrumentation: keyboard, ensemble, wind, percussion, strings, and voice.  Electives will also include the study and performance of jazz, spirituals, opera, Broadway, electronic music and non-Western music. The AFA degree program also features vocal performances through Limited Edition and a practicum in musical theater.

L&C offers the routes below to complete your associate's degree. To transfer as a junior into a B.F.A. program or a BA or BS program with a major in music, you should select either AFA or the AA or AS degree options in consultation with your music department advisor and the four-year institution.

If you intend to major in music business, music theory, jazz studies, jazz performance, theory/composition, sacred music, or music pedagogy you will follow curriculum guidelines that may vary from those specified in the AA, AS or the AFA Degree.
